Dell PowerEdge R740 Server (8-bay SFF)

The Dell R740 offers extensive PCIe expandability with up to eight PCIe Gen3 slots for add-in cards such as RAID controllers, high speed network adapters, NVMe storage adapters, and compute accelerators. Depending on the riser configuration, Dell specifications allow up to four x16 slots within these eight PCIe slots. The server also supports GPU acceleration, including up to three 300 W double width GPUs or six 150 W single width GPUs, enabling workloads such as VDI, analytics, and machine learning.

The Dell PowerEdge R740 features a Network Daughter Card (NDC) slot with configurations ranging from 4 × 1 GbE up to 4 × 10 GbE or 2 × 25 GbE. For higher throughput or specialized connectivity, additional PCIe network cards can be installed to expand bandwidth or add redundancy. This allows the system to support standard Ethernet, high speed data center networking, or Fibre Channel adapters depending on deployment requirements.

The R740 includes iDRAC9 with Lifecycle Controller, delivering comprehensive remote management such as system monitoring, configuration, firmware updates, and full out of band access. It also incorporates enterprise security features including TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, cryptographically signed firmware, and System Erase. These capabilities make the R740 suitable for data centers, enterprise deployments, and remote IT operations that require strong security and centralized management.
